Lux Review have ranked our Yeo Valley cold store lighting project at a respectable number six in the list.
This is an important project for us because we knew that Yeo Valley understood the unique advantages that Chil-LED has over alternative LED lighting for cold stores.

We won! Olivewood Technology are delighted to announce that our Chil-LED lighting system has won the 2015 Energy Efficient Product of the Year Lighting award. Company director and Chil-LED inventor Simon Leggett was at The Energy Awards on Wednesday night and was thrilled to win considering the strong competition.

It’s been an exciting year for us, and this award has topped it off brilliantly.”
Based in the South West, lighting and software specialists Olivewood Technology spotted a gap in the market. Both traditional and LED lighting was letting in heat into cold storage spaces and valuable energy was being wasted in removing that heat. Simon Leggett got to work designing Chil-LED – a unique lighting system designed specifically to stop heat from entering cold storage space making it extremely energy efficient when compared to other industrial LED lighting used in chill stores.
We are delighted to announce that Chil-LED, our high-power LED light designed for cold storage areas, has been shortlisted for Energy efficient product of the year – Lighting category, at The Energy Awards 2015.
Chil-LED has greater energy savings than other LED warehouse lights because the heat energy produced by the LED chip (around 70% of the energy input) is extracted via an innovative heat pipe system to a heatsink outside the cold store insulation skin, where it is passively dissipated. Convential LED warehouse lighting dissipates this heat directly into the warehouse where air-conditioning and refridgeration units work overtime to keep the store at the desired temperature.

We are proud to announce that we have completed a Chil-LED cold store lighting project for Yeo Valley. Working with Ayjay Group, we replaced the bulky legacy light fittings with the much lower-profile and energy-efficient Chil-LED units.
It was interesting to see the scorch marks left on the ceiling by the old light fittings – evidence of the high heat output within the cold store skin – an issue with both old-style metal-halide lighting and with conventional LED units that haven’t been designed specifically for cold stores. This heat then needs to be removed from the coldstore by the refrigeration equipment. A build-up of warm air near the ceiling of a cold storage warehouse means less useable storage space.
Chil-LED channels any heat produced by the LED chips to a heat-sink above the ceiling insulation skin where it is dissipated into the air in the room-temperature void above the cold store, without the need to run power-hungry and expensive cooling systems.
This project is an exciting benchmark for us and it was amazing to see how well Chil-LED works, and particularly how tiny the head unit looks in comparison with the bulky units that were replaced.
